Artificial intelligence is a breakthrough for humanity, but as is true for any innovation, its real-world impact will depend on its usage. And unfortunately, almost immediately after being released, each AI model becomes more and more censored, restricted, and biased. This trend entails multiple risks, and if we don't act now, it will be too late before we realize it.
The first threat is to see AI tools surreptitiously become vectors of propaganda and shaping a specific perception of reality that fits the vision of the powers that be. Adding a layer of censorship and bias on top of the AI outputs results in political agendas being forced on the users without their consent, creating the illusion of objectivity, when in reality, they reflect human ideologies disguised as algorithms. We all know the “seen on TV”. Now we enter the era of “AI says”. But AI is not “The Truth” - does such a concept even exist? - but just a probabilistic output based on a training dataset, that has to be taken for what it is, nothing more, nothing less.
These intentional manipulations of AI models are called “guardrails” and, unironically, this phrasing perfectly encompasses what it tries to hide. Indeed, what is a guardrail if not a set of boundaries to guide a “specific path”, and protect from “danger”? The “specific path” is the ideologies they want to push through the manipulated answers by AI. The “danger” is what you are supposed to fear if the AI tools are not controlled. Here lies the second threat. Our societies have always been built under the premise that people are free and responsible for their actions and usage of the tools they have. Shifting this concept to a new zeitgeist where people are considered irresponsible and dangerous by default and where only a small elite of self-proclaimed watchmen would decide beforehand what actions can be done for a “greater good“, only decided by them, is not our vision.
All of this philosophy can be represented by in one Sumerian word, , a star not only referring to Enki the God of Knowledge, but also the Nietzschean dancing star: “One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” The chaos coming from unrestricted freedom, the only one that can lead to true breakthrough. To our modern censors, we return your own words: “you have no reason to be afraid”. This is what enqAI stands for, and what defines our project.
